Sister Vacay {Cancun Riviera Maya, Mexico}

The beautiful thing about sisters is that they have been there from the start. They have seen the really good parts and the bad parts too, they know your story by heart. Sisters don’t envy you when your standing on the mountain, arms raised in freedom because they saw the chapter where you fought to be there. They don’t look down on you when you are gluing the pieces back together, because they are right beside you, handing you the pen, reminding you that your story hasn’t ended. Life happens, kids happen, miles between us happen but I am thankful we have been able to re connect again and again through good times, trials, group texts, funny memes + tik toks, and finally a trip to Mexico. An escape from writing those difficult chapters and just be together with the girls who helped write our story. I can not guarantee that we will ever share those storys with you but if we ever do, I can guarantee you won’t be able to put that book down.

When we first started searching for the perfect sister vacation we decided we would each bring a resort option to the table and vote on it. I cheated and reached out to Kelli Dunt at Key to the Word Travel. I have always used travel agencies to book our international trips just because 1. I have found they can usually get the best price. 2. I love have another option to call if you need help with anything. 3. I love the peace of mind that their private travel insurance brings me at a very reasonable price. 4. It’s always good to get a professionals opinion on your resort pick, they know what to look for and sometimes know first had if the food is amazing and beds are comfy. Kelly recommended that we try out the newly opened Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Cancún. It is owned by Karisma, the same people that opened all of the Nickelodeon resorts. She thought it would be perfect for us sisters to enjoy some time to ourselves.

I highly recommend visiting in April, the seaweed wasn’t too bad at all. The resort placed a net further out that seems to catch a lot and what did wash up, the staff worked so hard to make sure it was cleaned up. I noticed that right before a wedding, when this was taken, they did another quick clean up to make sure it was spotless

Beach service is a must for me on vacation and the staff did a great job serving us yummy margaritas.

One of my favorite things about the resort was the dock, the views of the gorgeous turquoise water from it were amazing!

Some cells phone pictures of our deluxe swim-up room. The room was huge and the beds were so comfortable. There was a lot of closet space but no draws. I love the way they decorated this place!

We really enjoyed our swim-up room and the gorgeous view outside of our room.

Taking pictures of my food isn’t really my thing but I will tell you that the food was amazing here. It honestly was the best food I have had in Mexico. I loved that the resort had it’s own app so you could make diner reservations and order room service without talking to anyone.

We did venture off of the resort once. There were a few things we wanted to see. I highly recommend hiring a private taxi through Amstar, rather than joining a big group tour. If you hire a private service you pay them per hour and they can take you where ever you want to go and spend as much time as you want at each place. I hate spending more time than I want to waiting for groups of tourist to be ready to board a van to go to the next scheduled place. One of the must see places we stopped was the city of Tulum, I wanted to see this pretty lady in person created by South African artist, Daniel Popper, he is known for his massive figurative sculptures. This one is titled Ven a la Luz. It means “come into the light”. The sculpture is comprised of wood and rope. It was incredible to see and one of the highlights of my trip to have the honor of photographing it.

We also visited the Mayan Ruins but skipped the guided tour and chose to explore on our own.

Over all we had such an amazing time and I would definitely stay at the Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Cancún and do this trip all over again! Good bye Mexico, until next time!
